Onboard CO2 catcher systems, 1st January 2024

Marine Power has been appointed as EU representative of Kingfisher Co. Ltd. China which is producing onboard CO2 catcher systems (OCCS) in a joint venture with SinoTech Co.

Also sulphur scrubbers (EGCS) are produced.

The CO2 catcher systems have been delivered to more than 50 shore based power stations in China.

The first CO2 catcher system onboard a vessel was installed in March 2024, onboard the m/v Alkimos IMO no.9603001.

ROI for these systems is just around 2 years. All depends on annual operating hours, fuel costs etc. Please see below.

M/T TORM HOUSTON

Torm Houston was delivered on the 5th January 2022 to Torm A/S.

Torm Houston is the 15th vessel in the serial from GSI. Previous deliveries were 5 LR2 tankers, 7 MR tankers, 2 LR1 tankers in the range from 50000tdw to 115000tdw. The construction of the vessels was commenced in March 2016.

Torm Houston, sister to Torm Helene, is a LR2 type, 115000 tdw, LOA 250m, breadth 44m, scantling draft 15,25m. The cargo system has 3 segregations, 3 cargo pumps of each 3000 cbm/hr powered by steam turbines.

Main and aux. engines are supplied with HP/LP SCR and scrubber systems. Further the vessel is prepared for installation of rotor sails by installing rotor sail foundations and all cable systems on main deck.

M/T Torm helene

On 10th december 2021 m/t Torm Helene was delivered to TORM A/S from GSI Long Xue island, Guangzhou. The vessel is the LR2 type with main dimensions of LOA 250m, Breadth 44m and scantling draft 15,25m. TDW 114000.

Cargo system has 3 separations and 3 steam turbine powered Shinko cargo pumps of total volume of 9000cbm/h. All 12 cargo tanks, ROT and slop tanks have SUS heating coils.

The main engine power is a CMD-MAN unit of CSR 9000 kW with HP SCR Tier 2/3 and with EGCS supplied by MEP. Service speed 14,5 kn. Range abt. 20,000n miles.

The sister vessel will be delivered beginning of January 2022.

Launching of 114000 Tdw LR2

This is the fifth LR2 vessel from GSI, Long Xue island, out of a total of 14 vessels to TORM Denmark. This new energy saving optimized vessel was launched on 15th June 2021.

Main dimensions abt. LOA 250m, Breadth 44m and scanting draft 15m.

Previous vessels delivered were 4 LR2s, 2 LR1s and 7 MRs oil product/chemical tankers in the range of 114000Tdw, 75000Tdw and 50000Tdw.

The vessel will in the next couple of months undergo mooring trials, cargo tank blasting/coating and be prepared for sea trial.

The joint welding of blocks in the dry dock continues. Machinery and other equipment is being installed. Shaft system and main engine is being prepared for lifting onboard.

NDT tests pressure/vacuum tests are in progress.

Building of new LR2s, hull 031 & 032

The building, blasting and coating of 554 blocks for the 2 vessels has been completed. Keel laying in dry dock no. 1 and no. 2. was done by end of February 2021. At this stage the erection of the blocks continues.

FATs of ship’s equipment, factory acceptance tests, have been attended at the various makers located between Schenzhen and Dalian. Equipment is ready to be installed according to the building process.

Last MR tanker delivered

M/T Torm Stellar was delivered ultimo April. She already departed from GSI medio May despite the Corona virus. This was possible due to an extremely professional teamwork by Owner, Crew, GSI /authorities and many other persons involved.

Torm Stellar is number 7 vessel of the MR type. Now in total we have supervised the building of 13 vessels on behalf of Torm Co. at GSI Long Xue.
